LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club have signed defenseman Nick Watson to a Western Hockey League’s Standard Player Agreement.

Watson, 15, was selected 28th overall in the second round of the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft. He spent the 2014-2015 hockey season with the Delta Hockey Academy where he scored nine points (3g-6a) in 24 games while also collecting 22 penalty minutes.

Hurricanes General Manager, Peter Anholt, is happy to have Watson put pen to paper, “he’s a real well-rounded defenseman. He’s got good size and good skills. He’s a real dependable guy. He’s a late birthday, so we’re not going to hurry that process. If he’s not ready to play for us at sixteen, we’ll send him back and we can work him in maybe a little bit slower.”

The Delta, BC, product also was a teammate of Hurricanes prospect Jordy Bellerive as he was a member of Team British Columbia in February at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George. At the tournament, Watson picked up one assist in six games.

“He’s a big, big piece to the puzzle of the Lethbridge Hurricanes going forward and it’s another real important signing for this organization,” added Anholt. “He made a real statement, along with Jordy Bellerive, that these guys want to come here and be a part of this organization and be a part of the City and help be a difference.”
