playon-redwoodcup-logos_LethbridgeNational Director Scott Hill has just released the following announcement:

As a result of lower than expected team registration numbers, the Redwood Cup will not proceed in 2015.

Based on the history of this event, and its annual growth and popularity in Alberta and all across Canada, it was anticipated that well over a hundred teams would descend on Lethbridge for this season’s national championship event – the first ever held in Alberta. Funding commitments and street closure commitments were secured based on that expectation.

We know the teams that qualified for this event and we have contacted each of them. The feedback has been clear – teams wanted to come. However, for a variety of reasons, including economic circumstances, timing, ice hockey conflicts, or likelihood of defeating the defending champion Montreal Red Lite – the vast majority of teams experienced previously unanticipated challenges in their efforts to get to Lethbridge for this season’s event.

The event was on track to be incredible, it really was. However, it needed the teams to come.

There is an overwhelming feeling of disappointment that is shared amongst those who have spent many months working tirelessly to make the 2015 Redwood Cup a success in Lethbridge. We would like to thank the City of Lethbridge and the Southern Alberta community for their support and willingness to host the 2015 Redwood Cup.
