LETHBRIDGE, AB – Five of the seven Lethbridge Hurricanes alumni competing in this past weekend’s Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) Men’s Hockey Championship, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, finished the tournament with a medal.

Three Hurricanes alumni – Jesse Craige, Josh Derko and Brennan Yadlowski – were a part of the Championship winning University of Alberta Golden Bears who won the University Cup for the second consecutive year. Craige, who spent parts of three seasons with the Hurricanes from 2005 until 2008, finished tied for the lead in tournament scoring among defenseman collecting three assists in three games.

Former ‘Canes captain Cam Braes and the UNB Varsity Reds finished with a silver medal having played in the Championship game, but losing the deciding game 6-3 to the Golden Bears. Braes led all goal scorers in the tournament scoring five goals in in three outings.

Seth Swenson, who played part of last season with the Hurricanes, picked up a Bronze medal as his University of Guelph Gryphons finished third place having beat the UQTR Patriotes 3-2 in overtime.

The other two former ‘Canes alumni that took part in the tournament were Philip Tot and Max Ross who both suited up for the Calgary Dinos.

In total, 30 former Western Hockey League players earned medals at the tournament.
